May 25, 2006 Ken and Lisa Schultz are winemakers at heart. As co-founders and chief winemakers at Painted Rocks Winery, the Schultzes helped develop and market a popular line of Montana-made wines. After leaving the Painted Rocks Winery partnership, it only seemed natural for the Schultzes to carry on their passion for winemaking by starting Trapper Creek Winery. With the help of MCDC’s IRP fund and an $18,600 growth through agriculture grant from the Montana Department of Agriculture, they were able to purchase equipment and supplies necessary to start their business. Located in the Bitterroot Valley, Trapper Creek Winery transforms honey and berries produced in Montana into mead wines that are sold throughout the region.
