June 7, 2008 Despite a general population exodus from eastern Montana towns, Glendive, population 4729, has gained population due to a bit of an oil boom. Recognizing the need for more childcare opportunities in Glendive and the potential to boost their business income, Kim and Ted Trejo decided to expand their daycare business. The Trejos purchased a new building in January 28, 2008, but needed some working capital to get the expansion underway. MCDC loaned Toddle Time the funds to purchase daycare equipment. Toddle Time has already increased their enrollment from 16 children to 27 children and has provided jobs for 6 people in addition to the Trejos. The expansion allows the Trejos to offer a full-fledged preschool program, after-care program and summer programs. This menu of child-care options provides parents with competent childcare options, allowing them to carry on with a productive workday. MCDC recognizes this vital service as an important piece of the overall economic health of a community, and is proud to partner with rural businesses serving low-income communities such as Toddle Time.
