At the heart of our work is MCDC's mission of creating income opportunities for all members of our communities. We are dedicated to creating quality jobs and self-employment ventures that provide families with a dignified standard of living. We believe that this lays the economic base of a vibrant, sustainable community. Ultimately our impact is measured by the number of entrepreneurs we help emerge and grow to seed a prosperous future for Montana. MCDC has lent $9 million to over 350 western Montana businesses. Our Small Business Development Center helps hundreds of businesses each year as they tackle marketing, financial and strategic challenges. And our Forest Business Consulting program has introduced innovative new products, manufacturing processes and partnerships among wood products businesses. MCDC has been successful in reaching all members of the community with our loans. Low income borrowers make up over 40% of our customers. Over half of our loans are made in low- and moderate-income counties. About 60% of borrowers are women. And more than half of all loans are small "micro" loans.
