MCDC is seeking a Loan Officer.

Position: Loan Officer
Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt (40 hours per week)
Reports to: Operations Manager
Salary: $30,000 - $50,000
Benefits: Health insurance plan, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, contribution to Simple IRA, and flexible benefits plan.
Position Summary: The Loan Officer evaluates businesses, underwrites loans, and manages a loan portfolio. This position works extensively with MCDC clients before and after loans are made. The position works closely with other members of the Lending Team, and is guided by MCDC’s Loan Fund Policy.
Job Duties:
Loan Processing
- Evaluate business plans and financial projections
- Compile accurate spread sheets (balance sheets, income statement, cash flows, trends, and ratio analysis) based on information obtained from clients
- Work with the Small Business Development Center Director to provide technical assistance to people starting a new business including evaluating business and marketing plans, financial pro formas, and projected cash flows
- Gather credit data and financial background on prospective and current MCDC clients
- Analyze, evaluate, and report on credit worthiness of current and prospective business clients
- Underwrite loans by preparing well written, detailed, loan write-ups in accordance with MCDC loan policy incorporating all facets of loan analysis
- Present loan underwriting to external and internal loan committees
- Participate in loan closings with loan administrator to ensure client understands covenants requirements; schedule initial follow-up meeting with client during loan closing
- Prepare and maintain loan client files
Loan Monitoring
- Work with existing loan clients to obtain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Evaluate existing loan client performance through spreadsheet analysis of balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and ratio analysis
- Monitor overall loan portfolio quality monthly, quarterly, and annually
- Work with MCDC Loan Administrator to create a watch list and action plan for problems in the lending portfolio
- Assist MCDC Loan Administrator with repossession, collection, and loan workout information
General Duties:
- Document all time spent with clients in MCDC databases.
- Prepare annual work plan for area of responsibility that coordinates with lending team work plan. Prepare quarterly comparison of goals to achievements.
- Participate in staff meetings as well as lending and technical assistance staff meetings on a weekly basis
- Participate in projects as needed to accomplish overall MCDC goals and strategies
- Qualifications, Experience and Training:
- College degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or equivalent experience.
- Very strong writing skills.
- Very strong understanding of financial evaluation tools including ratios, cash flows, break-even points, etc.
- Very strong Word and Excel skills.
- Considerable knowledge of sound business procedures including business financing, human resources, IT, inbound logistics, operations, and sales and marketing
- Understanding of financing options for business start-ups and business expansions
- Skills in preparing and presenting accurate written and oral summaries of financial analyses prepared
- Skill in using financial analysis computer programs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, lenders, investors, other agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
